An Afternoon at Lyman Orchards, Middlefield, CT

The girls spent Saturday night at my parents’ house and we met up to get them back at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, CT Sunday afternoon.

It was a GORGEOUS (and sunny!) day!

A great day for a sunflower maze!  Lyman Orchards says: It’s the most exciting maze ever, with all the twists and turns of a real roller coaster. Winding your way among thousands of sunflowers will bring you lots of fun! Nothing screams excitement like towering sunflowers providing a visual experience unlike any other! There are lots of ways to get lost, but only one exit! Fun trivia challenges help guide your way!

Can you imagine?  A field of 300,000 blooming red and yellow sunflowers – $1 of each admission is donated to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

I volunteered to stay on the outside and supervise.  True story – I went with the girls a few years ago by myself and we wandered around for-EVER trying to get out.  It was hot, they were little, the flowers started closing in on me…. SO I sent them all in with maps and  without me. =D

oh, you’re doing fine, I’m just enjoying the view….

they’re in there somewhere…

there’s some of them…

They made it out and we went to pick nectarines.  Check out all the fruit on those trees!

Don’t tell, I let them have a taste.

We also picked a pie (blueberry, hub’s fave!) and some molasses cookies (everybody’s fave!) from the Apple Barrel (bakery, lunch counter, fruit stand, country store, all-round awesomeness) and fed the ducks and geese and a rogue pigeon or 4.

One goose had a tag on its neck.  We guessed it was on work release, or modeling fall fashions for birds, or Little Girl said that’s how they could tell who was the mama.

Nice-ta meecha, C-409!

Some watermelon pieces from the Apple Barrel, and we were back on our way home.  What a fun summer afternoon!

The End.
